COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team notched its first tie of the 2009 season, a 2-2 stalemate against visiting Fullerton College on Friday in Orange Empire Conference action.
After falling behind 1-0 in the eighth minute, the Pirates (7-5-1, 4-1-1 in OEC) tied things up in the 22nd minute when a shot by Will Munoz was mishandled by the Fullerton goalkeeper and found the back of the net, off a pass from Eddie Guillen.
Coast took a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute when Dean Regis drove down the right side and fed a nice cross-pass to Munoz, who buried his shot into the goal for his second of the game.
That lead carried into halftime, but Fullerton (1-5-5, 1-2-3) tied things up for good in the 55th minute when a penalty kick was awarded to the Hornets. Pablo Venegas took the PK ripped his shot into the back of the net.
OCC goalkeeper Brian Rippeto had eight saves, including a couple of A-plus efforts on a point-blank shot and on a header attempt late in the game.
Fullerton's Joshua Cocis had six saves in goal.
The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday at home against Riverside, beginning at 3 p.m.
