Women's Volleyball: Pirates return to winning ways by sweeping Riverside

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team made quick work of visiting Riverside, sweeping the Tigers, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 on Friday night in Orange Empire Conference action.
With the win, the Pirates (15-2, 9-2 in OEC), ranked fifth in the state, will remain tied for first place with the winner of tonight's Irvine Valley-Cypress match.
Poerava Gantt led Coast with 16 kills and 16 digs, while Rachel Freeno and Briana Fields each added 10 kills.
Amanda Cheseborough contributed 15 digs to the Pirates' defense, while Freeno added 11 and Nikki Osuna came up with 10.
Freshman setter Kimya Jafroudi dished out 46 points.
For the 17th-ranked Tigers (15-9, 6-5), Amanda Vialpando led the way with 12 kills.
OCC returns to action on Wednesday at OEC-rival Irvine Valley, beginning at 6 p.m. Coast will celebrate "Sophomore Night" on Friday at home against Fullerton, beginning at 7 p.m.
