Pirates Surrender Fourth Quarter Lead, Fall to Warriors, 36-33
Saturday, October 15, 2005

COSTA MESA - Second-ranked El Camino scored 22 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to erase a 26-14 deficit and knock off the Pirates, 36-33, Saturday evening in Mission Conference National Division Play in LeBard Stadium.

The Pirates held their 12-point lead for a good portion of the second half after Eric Dietz scored on an 11-yard pass from Kekoa Crowell with 10:41 remaining in the third quarter. The defense held strong throughout the third and half of the fourth before the Warriors began their comeback.

Lyle Moevao connected with Kayne Farquharson on a 21-yard pass play to cap off a nine-play, 81-yard drive to cut the lead to 26-21 at the 7:36 mark.

After holding the Bucs to a 3-and-out on the next possession, the Warriors needed just three plays to march 64 yards as Moevao hit Marcel Reece for a 50-yard scoring play, his second long touchdown reception of the game. He also went 76 yards on the first play from scrimmage for a 7-0 lead.

Despite giving up the long touchdown, the Pirates bounced back quickly and went 70 yards on 10 plays as Robert Aoki raced 20 yards for the first of his two touchdowns. El Camino answered with a 1-yard run by Brian Flowers for a 14-7 lead, but the Pirates controlled the next two quarters of play.

Aoki scored again on a 1-yard plunge after a dropped punt snap gave the Bucs the ball at the Warriors' 1-yard line. Shane Hoffman gave the Bucs their first lead at 20-14 to cap an 80-yard drive after catching a 25-yard pass from Crowell with 4:19 to go in the first half.

The Pirates still had time left to regain the lead after the Reece score, but Crowell was picked off by Samuel Calhoun at midfield and the defender raced 50 yards for a touchdown.

Ethan Haller came off of the bench and hit Hoffman on a 30-yard touchdown pass as time expired to wrap up the scoring.

Aoki posted his third 100-yard rushing game of the season, carrying 21 times for 103 yards and two scores. Crowell completed 12-of-18 for 111 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in his second start of the season while Haller went 7-for-11 for 85 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a reserve role.

Hoffman led the receiving corps by catching 6 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns whlie Eric Dietz and Jimmy Thorson each caught four passes

Moevao connected on 28-of-38 for 332 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Warriors (6-0, 1-0). Reece hurt the Pirates with five grabs for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Flowers carried 13 times for 52 yards and a touchdown.
