Ronning Racks Up Tackles, Player of the Week Honors

COSTA MESA - Sophomore LB Dave Ronning capped off a victorious weekend by being chosen the Mission Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Ronning had a stellar outing for the Pirates in their thrilling 30-28 win over Saddleback on Saturday evening. He led the Pirates with 14 tackles (4 solo) and played every defensive down for the team.
Through seven games, he leads the Pirates with 80 total tackles, including five for loss, one sack, two interceptions, two pass breakups and one forced fumble. He has twice been chosen the team's player of the week and scored a touchdown on a 53-yard interception return against Pasadena City College on September 24.
The weekly award is the second to go out to an Orange Coast College player this season as sophomore WR Shane Hoffman was voted the Special Teams Player of the Week for games played on September 17. He set a school record with two kickoff returns for touchdowns against Palomar in a 40-32 defeat.
Ronning was joined on this week's conference honor roll by RB Brian Flowers of El Camino College and K Raul Torres of Riverside City College.
Orange Coast (4-3, 1-1) will visit Santa Ana this Saturday, October 29 with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
