Friday, May 19, 2006

COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College sophomore standout Matt Davis will continue his athletic and academic careers at Vanguard University in the fall.
Davis, a 6-foot-7 forward, averaged 9.6 points, a team-best 5.0 rebounds, 1.4 blocked shots and 1.2 assists per game for the Pirates. His 306 points were third-best on the team.
OCC finished 22-11 and advanced to the Southern California Regional playoffs this past season.
Prior to his stint at OCC, Davis attended Mater Dei High, where he helped guide the Monarchs to the CIF Division II state championship is 2002-03.
While at Coast, Davis earned the team's Most Improved Player award as a freshman and was named the Defensive Player of the Year this past season.
"Matt is a great kid very easy to coach," OCC head coach Steve Spencer said. "His best days as a player are ahead of him. He improved alot in his two years here. He is a very good mid-range shooter, runs the floor extremely well and has Division I shot-blocking ability. I think it's a great fit academically, spiritually and athletically for Matt."
