Women's cross country win SoCal Preview Meet

ANTELOPE VALLEY -- The Orange Coast College women’s cross country team won the SoCal Preview Meet with a team total of 58 points, thanks to top-10 finishes by Erendira Uriostegui and Elda Hernandez.
Uriostegui finished the 5K course with a second-place time of 20 minutes, 35.28 seconds. Hernandez finished fourth with a time of 20:43.8. The final three scored runners also crossed the tape in the top-30 and they were Kristin Glen (12th, 21:21.59), Kimberly Jennings (17th, 21:31.98) and Claire Fleming (30th, 22:15.65). Teammate Natalie Gonzalez clocked in with a time of 23:35.49.
On the men’s side, the Pirates finished eighth overall with 183 points. Leading the way for OCC was Martin Bernard, who finished the four-mile course 20th overall with a time of 24:02.39. Ernesto Castaneda placed 25th with a 24:12.34 and Nick St. Andre (35th, 24:26.8), Alfonso Silvas (41st, 24:38.04) and Sean Connor (62nd (25:06.1) rounded out the Pirates’ top-five. Other times for OCC included Erik Lopez (25:10.58), Nathaniel Mouzis (25:51.53), Travis Foerster (25:31.22), Eric Pettit (26:41.77), Osbaldo Riestra (29:15.82), Alex Drum (29:56.38) and Mario Guereca (33:27.02).
The cross country team returns to action on Sept. 16 at the Cuesta Invitational in San Luis Obispo, starting at 9 a.m.
