COSTA MESA - All that Katie Johnson was missing on Tuesday was some popcorn, Raisinettes and a large soda. Facing a whopping total of ZERO shots the entire afternoon, the Orange Coast College goalkeeper watched her teammates roll past Irvine Valley 3-0 in Orange Empire Conference action at the OCC Soccer Complex. With 99 percent of the game played on the Lasers' side of the field, OCC (7-3 overall, 4-1 in OEC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 11 minutes with two goals by Loren Kortizija and a single goal from Kaitlyn Schuesler. While Johnson was standing by herself most of the afternoon, IVC goalkeeper Amanda Shay was peppered with shots throughout the match, but she stepped up and posted 21 saves, including several "highlight reel" stops that kept the score reasonable. Schuesler, Rachel Ronquillo and Hailey Jodat each notched assists for the Pirates. "Even when we jumped out big early, we didn't get sloppy the rest of the way and I'm very pleased with that," head coach Kevin Smith said. "We were very consistent in the middle and back. We still need to work on our attacking third of the field and be more decisive when we have those scoring opportunities." OCC will hit the road to play at Santiago Canyon on Friday in a battle of two of the top-three teams in the conference. "I'd like to see us come out more confident against them (SCC)," Smith said. "Against Cypress (a 5-0 loss last Friday), we were so indecisive. I'd like to see us apply the pressure on Friday."
