COSTA MESA - With a nice, balanced hitting attack, the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team made quick work of visiting Santa Ana, winning 30-11, 30-18, 30-15 on Wednesday in Orange Empire Conference action.
Freshman Jacqi Reed led the No. 1 ranked Pirates with 13 kills, while Kiwi Winkler added 10 kills to go along with 12 digs. Adding to the offense was Joanna Johnson, who chipped in seven kills and four blocks. Pacing the offense for OCC (9-0, 2-0 in OEC) was Chelsea Spadaro with 32 assists. It's the 35th straight win for the Pirates, but head coach Chuck Cutenese knows the team still needs to raise their collective games another couple of notches. "We still need to play much better than we're playing," Cutenese said. "Especially against teams like Golden West and Irvine Valley and Fullerton." Brigina Brock led the Dons (4-3, 0-2) with seven kills and setter Diana Quezada dished out 14 assists. The next two matches for OCC will give the team the measuring stick it needs. On Friday, the Pirates host No. 13 Fullerton at 7 p.m. From there, they travel to Huntington Beach to take on 15th ranked Golden West on Wednesday, also at 7.
