HUNTINGTON BEACH - The same, unfortunate script was being written on Tuesday night for the Orange Coast College men's soccer team -- give up early goal, get a bunch of chances, but come up a goal short. John Clark changed the ending of this story for the better as he scored in the 85th minute to help the Pirates earn a 1-1 tie with Golden West in Orange Empire Conference action.
Taking a nice cross-pass from Adam Hare, Clark headed the pass past Rustler goalkeeper Erik Gonzalez and into the back of the net for the Pirates (5-6-2, 1-3-1 in conference).
OCC goalkeeper Alex Roberts posted five saves, including a couple of point-blankers that enabled the Pirates to rally late.
GWC (7-3-3, 2-1-2) took the early lead on a goal by Angel Palma in the game's 7th minute. Gonzalez posted three saves for the Rustlers.
OCC will return to action on Friday at home against Santa Ana, beginning at 3 p.m.
