PASADENA - With wins in three of its four contests, the Orange Coast College women's water polo team earned a second-place finish at the Pasadena Water Polo Tournament this past weekend at Pasadena City College.
Perhaps the highlight of the tourney came on Friday when the Pirates upset fourth-ranked Cuesta, 6-5. Natasha Bustard scored her third goal of the game with 3:36 left in the fourth quarter to break a 5-5 tie and goalie Marilyn Stowell (pictured left) came up huge stopping a 5-meter penalty shot in the game's final seconds to preserve the win. The Pirates also posted wins against host Pasadena (18-6) and Citrus (9-3), while losing to Cerritos (14-7) along the way. In the win against PCC, Ashley Maher and Amy Kiser each scored six goals for OCC (7-10). Annie Le added three goals and single tallies were contributed by Kelly O'Brien, Tonya Jensen and Samantha Klippert. Stowell and Katie Mahan combined for seven saves in the win. OCC returns to action on Wednesday when they play at Golden West, beginning at 4 p.m. They return home to host Saddleback on Oct. 18, also at 4.
