Men's soccer hangs on to top Fullerton, 2-1
Tuesday, October 17, 2006

FULLERTON - As snake bitten as the Orange Coast College men's soccer team has been, Tuesday's matchup against Fullerton couldn't have started any better.
Just 22 seconds into the contest, a clearing chance by Hornet goalkeeper Carlos Guerra banked off of the head of Pirate forward Adam Hare, past the stunned Hornet netminder and into the back of the net, paving the way for Orange Coast's 2-1 road win.
The lead was doubled to 2-0 in the 68th minute when Ian Cone ripped a 25-yard shot into the upper-portion of the net, giving the Pirates (6-6-3, 2-3-2 in the Orange Empire Conference) their first crooked number on a scoreboard in four games and six of their last seven.
Ulises Gonzalez made things interesting in the 84th minute when he found the back of the net for Fullerton (6-7-1, 1-5-1), but Pirate goalkeeper Alex Roberts (four saves) prevented further damage the rest of the way.
OCC returns home to face Riverside on Friday, beginning at 3 p.m.
