Orange Coast College’s Ornamental Horticulture Department will conduct its 32nd annual holiday poinsettia sale on Friday, Dec. 11th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The most popular 6-inch pots have three plants instead of one, which makes them lush and fuller than plants usually sold in stores. The Horticulture Department also has 4 1/2-inch pots, 12-inch bowls, centerpieces and hanging baskets. Prices range from $5 for the smaller plants to $40 for the 12-inch bowls. Hanging baskets are $30; centerpieces are $15.
OCC’s horticulture students have grown more than 11,000 plants this fall in the campus’ five greenhouses. Most of the plants are the traditional red and white varieties, with some red winter rose and Monet available.
“It’s long been a tradition at Orange Coast College for ornamental horticulture students to produce beautiful poinsettias during the holiday season as part of their studies,” said Joe Stead, horticulture lab coordinator. “Our students planted these poinsettias the first two weeks in September and have been nurturing them ever since.
“Customers will purchase the poinsettias directly out of the greenhouses where the plants were grown. They’re completely fresh with no shipping injury or damage.”
Customers ordering $100 or more can take advantage of the poinsettia pre-sale. Order forms are available on the Horticulture Department website at www.occhorticulture.com.
Plants will be sold in the Horticulture Garden located just off Adams Avenue, adjacent to the college’s Technology Center. All proceeds from the sale will fund future student projects.
For information about the sale, visit the Horticulture Department website or phone (714) 432-5748.
