OCC's Wireless "Hot Spots"
Orange Coast College has deployed wireless connectivity on campus. For the first step, the IT department has decided to deploy and test “Hot Spot” coverage zones within specific areas of the campus. Areas designated as “Hot Spots” are defined in the map below (click on the thumbnail for a larger picture). It is envisioned the IT department will begin testing new data network security measures, enhanced user access rule sets for data access, management, and throttling. If successful, and student adoption of the technology is enthusiastic, it is expected that OCC will deploy this technology campus-wide with the expressed purpose of providing internet connectivity to their students no matter where they are on campus.

How to Logon to the Wireless Network
First, you will need to verify that your device “sees” the local access point. This will depend on the way your device is configured and its Operating System. For all troubleshooting assistance we suggest that you go to the Computing Center (or ask a fellow student) for help. Right click the wireless connection icon in your system tray, and then select View Availible Wireless Networks. The appearance of the icon in your system tray may vary depending on which wireless driver you are using.

A Dialog will appear similar to the one shown below, select the student network, click "Connect", wait for the network to become ready. Your computer may notify you that the connection is unsecure. Select the option to connect anyway.

To continue, simply open a browser, e.g. Internet Explorer. If you receive a “Page Not Found” message, something is wrong. If you connect correctly, you will be asked to allow a new Security Certificate. To continue, you must select the YES button.
