Loan Deferments Information and Forms
A deferment is a period in which repayment of principal and interest is postponed temporarily. During the deferment of a subsidized loan (Direct Subsidized and Direct Subsidized Consolidation Loans), the government pays the interest that accrues. For unsubsidized loans (Direct Unsubsidized, Direct PLUS, Direct Unsubsidized Consolidation, and Direct PLUS Consolidation Loans), you are responsible for the interest that accrues during the deferment period. If you have unsubsidized loans, any unpaid interest capitalizes (is added to the principal balance) when you enter repayment at the end of the deferment. Our online Interest Capitalization Estimator can provide you with an estimate of the amount of interest that may capitalize at the end of your deferment period. There are several deferment types. If you are not eligible for a deferment you may still be eligible for a forbearance.
Please use this web site to determine the type of deferment that you may qualify for:

If you need assistance regarding the deferment process, please contact the OCC Financial Aid Office:

In school deferments requesting your enrollment status are completed at no charge in the Records Office, Watson Hall, 1st floor.
Financial Aid Follow-Up
Approximately 1 week from your FAFSA electronic filing date, you will receive a eSAR (Electronic Student Aid Report) in your email that you input on your FAFSA from the Department of Education. OCC will receive your information electronically from the Department of Education. Keep your eSAR for your records.
It is your responsibility to review your eSAR for correctness and to change any information that is not correct. If you receive aid based on incorrect data, you may be placed in an overpayment status and required to repay any funds that you have received.
The Financial Aid Office at OCC will review your application and notify you through your OCC email if there are additional documents required. If no additional information is needed, you will receive a notification of aid eligibility - an award letter. You may check your financial aid status at any time through the Links area of your MyOCC page.
All financial aid funds are disbursed through eDollar$ to all students. Please make sure that you have signed up for eDollar$
