Chemistry
Chemistry is the study of the composition of matter, its structure, and the changes it undergoes when converted from one form to another. Most four-year colleges and universities offer bachelor's degrees in Chemistry. Bachelor's degree programs prepare people for beginning jobs as Chemists. Community colleges offer the first two years of the four-year program. Most universities offer master's and doctoral degrees in Chemistry. Graduate degree programs usually provide specialized study in subfields of Chemistry such as Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry. An advanced degree is frequently required for a career in research and development or in teaching.
Bioinformatics programs also combine Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Programming.
