Wireless Network

OCC's Wireless "Hot Spots"

WirelessOrange Coast College has deployed wireless connectivity on campus. The Wireless Network is designed for coverage of non instructional areas where students gather, and outdoor instructional areas where instructors may access classroom registration using notebooks. The network is advertised as an as-is where-is resource. There is no guarantee of availability though is has been reliable.

Connecting your Laptop to the Wireless Network

Step 1:
User must first login to the OCC network on a hardwired computer.  This will authenticate their user ID and verify that the account is working. You need to log into a desktop computer in either t Computing Center or the Library to initially set up your account.

Step 2:
You will need to verify that your device “sees” the local access point. This will depend on the way your device is configured and its Operating System. For all troubleshooting assistance we suggest that you go to the Computing Center (or ask a fellow student) for help. Right click the wireless connection icon in your system tray, and then select View Available Wireless Networks. The appearance of the icon in your system tray may vary depending on which wireless driver you are using.

then select View Available Wireless Networks

Step 3:
A Dialog will appear similar to the one shown below, select the student network, click "Connect", wait for the network to become ready. Your computer may notify you that the connection is unsecured. Select the option to connect anyway.

Step 4:
To continue, simply open a browser, e.g. Internet Explorer. If you receive a “Page Not Found” message, something is wrong. If you connect correctly, you will be asked to allow a new Security Certificate. To continue, you must select the YES button.

Step 5:
The Logan screen will then be displayed along with the OCC Wireless Guidelines, You should take a moment to read them because by continuing, you agree to comply with them.

The Class Schedule is the only service available without logging. To logan, you will need to use your OCC network account and password, and select the I Accept These Terms button.
