It was 60 years ago that Orange Coast College became a living,
breathing entity.
On Monday, Jan. 27, 1947, local voters overwhelmingly passed a ballot initiative to launch the new college. The first classes were offered on campus 20 months later, on Monday, Sept. 13, 1948.
OCC began its 20-month 60th anniversary celebration in 2007. The theme for the celebration, which runs through September of 2008, is “Building a Bright Future Together.” With the largest construction boom in the college’s history under way on campus, that boom provides the inspiration for the theme.
