Friends of the Library to Host Program at Lido Clubhouse
Claudia Ackley, president of the Orange Coast College Friends of the Library (FOTL) and an emeritus OCC counselor, will present “Cuba: Our Nearest, Most Distant Neighbor” on Thursday, February 20. The lecture, sponsored by OCC’s Friends of the Library and the Lido Isle Women’s Club, will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Lido Isle Clubhouse, 701 Via Lido Soud, Newport Beach. The public is invited to attend. Donation is $5 or a gently used book. Proceeds will benefit the OCC Library. Refreshments will be served. To reserve a seat, please call (714) 432-5087.
Ackley will share her experiences during a recent visit to Cuba, with its historically rich culture and friendly people. “It is a land of contradictions,” Ackley observed. The average income is $25 a month, “but their free educational system boasts a 99% literacy rate.”
