New Administrator Brings 10 Years of Experience to Coast

Juan Gutierrez joined Orange Coast College’s staff as its new director of Marketing and Public Relations this month. Gutierrez will serve as OCC’s public information officer, oversee the institution’s marketing and student recruitment efforts, coordinate media relations, and supervise the creation of traditional and new media publications.

“I am excited to be part of the Orange Coast College family,” Gutierrez said. “I look forward to working with our many wonderful community groups, dedicated faculty and staff, and talented and driven students.”

Gutierrez previously served as the director of Public Relations of Pasadena City College since 2004 and has more than 10 years’ experience in higher education marketing and communication within the California Community College system.

“We are excited to have Juan join the institution and the OCC Advancement team,” said Doug Bennett, Executive Director of College Advancement. “He brings a wealth of knowledge to OCC.”

As the chief spokesperson for PCC, Gutierrez was primarily responsible for all media relations, marketing/advertising, and graphic design for the institution. During his tenure, he helped develop an integrated marketing and communication plan for the college that leveraged social networking to increase PCC brand awareness, while distributing key messages directly to the community.

Gutierrez is a board member and past president of the Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO), a member of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR), and a graduate of the Leadership Pasadena program. In 2013, “THE Magazine” of Pasadena honored Gutierrez as one of its 50 inspiring leaders.

Gutierrez holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University, Bakersfield with concentrations in marketing and accounting and an MBA from the University of Redlands.
