CSULB EXTENDS FALL 2006 APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR UPPER DIVISION TRANSFER STUDENTS
Thursday, December 01, 2005

California State University at Long Beach has extended the application filing period for upper division transfer students applying to non-impacted majors for the fall semester of 2006.

The original application deadline was Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005. It has been extended to Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006.

Orange Coast College is the number one transfer school to Long Beach. Dan Weber, director of OCC's Transfer Center, says the filing extension will be a boon to his students.

"Not only is the extension for non-impacted majors big news in itself, but the fact that our students will be allowed to complete their 60 transfer units by next summer is almost bigger news," Weber said. "I think a lot of our students will take advantage of this extension."

In order to transfer to Long Beach in the fall of 2006, OCC students must have completed 60 transferable units and 30 general education units by the end of next summer. Students must also complete required pre-requisites for impacted majors.

OCC students who have questions about transferring to Long Beach next fall

should contact Orange Coast College's Transfer Center at (714) 432-5894.

"Information pertaining to CSULB transfer will be posted in the coming days and weeks on our Transfer Center web page on OCC's website (orangecoastcollege.edu)," Weber says.

A Cal State Long Beach transfer representative will visit the Transfer Center multiple times next spring. Spring semester classes get under way on Monday, Jan. 30.

OCC is annually one of the nation's leaders in transferring students to four-year colleges and universities. Last year, Orange Coast ranked first among California's 109 community colleges in the number of students it transferred to the 23-campus California State University system. OCC was number two in transfers to the California State University and University of California systems combined.

The Transfer Center is designed to assist students in transferring to and from OCC. Located in the college's Counseling and Admissions Annex, it is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
