OCC'S SCHOOL OF SAILING AND SEAMANSHIP OFFERS ADVANCED MARINE WEATHER CLASS

A six-week advanced marine weather class will be offered in January and February by Orange Coast College's School of Sailing and Seamanship.

The non-credit class meets Thursday evenings, Jan. 9, 16, 23, 30, Feb. 6 and 13, from 7-9 p.m. at OCC's Sailing Center in Newport Beach. Registration fee is $75.

The course takes an in-depth look at high and low pressure systems, and the evolution of hurricanes and thunderstorms. It introduces the use of upper level charts and their importance in understanding weather patterns and their evolution.

Students will be introduced to forecasting techniques, and the use of weather fax and pilot charts. Attendees will gain practical experience in using weather charts and data.

OCC's Sailing Center is located at 1801 W. Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach, between the Balboa Bay Club and the Orange County Sea Scout Base.
