OCC SPRING COURSE LOOKS AT MARINE SCIENCES

A three-unit course that provides an introduction to oceanography and the marine sciences will be offered this spring by Orange Coast College's Marine Science Department.

Spring semester classes begin on Monday, Jan. 30.

OCC has the largest marine science department of any community college in America. Listed as Marine Science 100 in OCC's schedule, three sections of the course are slated. They meet mornings and evenings.

The course considers the physical and chemical properties of the sea; the sea/air interface; the biology of the sea; the geology of the ocean basins; the sea as a physical, chemical, biological and recreational resource; and, the obligation of humankind to control further contamination of the environment.

The course is fully transferable to the University of California and California State University systems.

Spring registration is under way, and registration appointments are available in OCC's Admissions Office. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to

6:30 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

OCC's spring enrollment fees are $26 per unit. The spring schedule is listed on the college's Internet web page (orangecoastcollege.edu). The printed schedule is

available in the Admissions Office.
