OCC'S SCHOOL OF SAILING AND SEAMANSHIP OFFERS JANUARY-FEBRUARY KEELBOAT CLASS

A non-credit basic keelboat certification class that's designed for students with rudimentary sailing experience will be offered in January and February by Orange Coast College's School of Sailing and Seamanship.

Taught aboard OCC's small 27 to 30-foot keelboats, the course covers rigging the Shields, leaving and returning to the dock, skippering, terminology, right-of-way rules, crew work, sail trim and sail shape, reefing, anchoring, crew overboard, safety topics, and seamanship skills.

The course meets six Saturdays, Jan. 10, 17, 24, 31, Feb. 7 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at OCC's Sailing Center in Newport Beach. Registration fee for the class is $415.
