A three-unit course that surveys American music and musicians from early colonial days to current times will be offered this spring by Orange Coast College's Music Department.
Spring semester classes begin on Monday, Jan. 30.
Titled "Music in America," and listed as Music 170 in OCC's schedule, the course meets Tuesday evenings, from 7-10:10 p.m.
The course emphasizes American contributions to the world of music. It looks at America's growing period, religious music, folk songs, nationalistic elements and composers, jazz, musical theatre, and contemporary developments. It is fully transferable to the University of California and California State University systems.
Spring registration is under way, and registration appointments are available in OCC's Admissions Office. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to
6:30 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
OCC's spring enrollment fees are $26 per unit. The spring schedule is listed on
the college's Internet web page (orangecoastcollege.edu). The printed schedule is
available in the Admissions Office.
