OCC’S SCHOOL OF SAILING AND SEAMANSHIP SLATES WINTER BASIC CRUISING II CLASS

A three-week sailing course for persons who are interested in seeking Basic Cruising Certification will be offered in January and February by Orange Coast College's School of Sailing and Seamanship.

Titled "Basic Cruising II," the non-credit class meets Sundays, Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at OCC's Sailing Center in Newport Beach. Registration fee is $250.

Visa and MasterCard holders may register by phone, or online.

OCC's Sailing Center is located at 1801 W. Pacific Coast Highway, between the Balboa Bay Club and Orange County Sea Scout Base.

The course focuses on boat systems and on-board waste management. Other topics include anchoring, sail shape and rig control, safety at sea, heavy weather techniques, course plotting, and steering by compass. As a prerequisite, students should first complete OCC's Basic Cruising I course.
