A three-unit course that examines the Bible as literature will be offered this spring by Orange Coast College's Religious Studies Department.
Spring semester classes begin on Monday, Feb. 2.
Listed as Religious Studies 180 in OCC's schedule, the class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 9:35-11 a.m.
The course examines the philosophical, cultural, mythic, religious and historical elements found in biblical literature. Students will learn to appreciate literary devices and styles evident in the books of the Bible. They'll explore the commentary made by the individual works on moral, social and aesthetic issues. Students will also view the Bible through their own cultural experience and background.
The course is fully transferable to the University of California and California State University systems.
Spring registration is under way, and registration appointments are available in OCC's Admissions Office. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
