OCC WORKSHOP TEACHES SKILLS FOR MAKING CANVAS BUCKET, TOOL BAG
Thursday, December 18, 2003

A five-hour, non-credit class that teaches students how to make a canvas bucket or tool bag will be offered in January by Orange Coast College's School of Sailing and Seamanship.

The course meets Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at OCC's Sailing Center in Newport Beach. Registration fee is $55, plus an $18 materials fee.

Expert rigging instructor, Lindsey Philpott, will teach students how to put together a quality hand-made and functional piece of equipment for use in the home or on a boat.

"A person can get a plastic or rubber bucket for a trifling few dollars at a store, so why bother with this class?" Philpott asked. "For the same reason that people buy fine crystal, linen drapes or even a gold watch. This workshop is for people who care about quality, tradition and the finer things in life."

OCC's Sailing Center is located at 1801 W. Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach, between the Balboa Bay Club and the Orange County Sea Scout Base.

Visa and MasterCard holders may register by phone.
