CCCD BOARD TO REVIEW ACCREDITATION FOLLOW-UP REPORT
Following a campus review this week, on February 5 the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees will complete a first reading of the Follow-Up Report that will be submitted by the District and Orange Coast College to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). A second reading and approval is scheduled for February 19. The report must be submitted to ACCJC by March 15.

DISTRICT ASKS EMPLOYEES TO COMPLETE CLASS CLIMATE SURVEY BY FEBRUARY 4
Coast Community College District is asking faculty and staff to provide feedback on board policies and procedures affecting student success and support by completing an online survey at http://cclimate.dis.cccd.edu/classclimate/indexstud.php?user_tan=ap5050 by Tuesday, February 4. The survey will to help the district comply with ACCJC standards.

OCC PHOTO EXHIBIT FEATURES OBJECTS SAVED FROM DECEASED LOVED ONES
A new exhibition of photographs and prose poems about items people save after the death of a loved one opened this week in the OCC Art Center Building and will run through March 3. “Saved” features large color photographs by North Carolina-based artist Jody Servon and prose poems by California-based poet Lorene Delany-Ullman.

The Orange Coast College Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion “17@70+” exhibit showcases the work of local artists, age 70 and over through February 26. The show includes pieces by 17 artists: Craig Antrim, Derek Boshier, Gary H. Brown, Doug Edge, Christopher Finch, Max Finkelstein, Louis Fox, Jim De France, Peter Liashkov, Ann Page, Betye Saar, James Scott, Rick Steadry, Gretel Stephens, Kent Twitchell, Jay Willis and Don Woodford. Curator is Trevor Norris, Arts Pavilion acting director.

OCC SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR TET FESTIVAL BOOTH
OCC has been provided the opportunity to have a booth at the Tet Festival at the Orange County Fairgrounds on the weekend of Friday through Sunday, February 7-9. The Festival is the largest Vietnamese Community Event in Orange County. This year marks it first year at the OCC Fairgrounds after being in Garden Grove for many years.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY PROGRAM TO EXPLORE CUBA
Claudia Ackley, president of the Orange Coast College Friends of the Library (FOTL) and a retired OCC counselor, will present “Cuba: Our Nearest, Most Distant Neighbor” on Thursday, February 20. The lecture, sponsored by OCC’s Friends of the Library and the Lido Isle Women’s Club, will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Lido Isle Clubhouse, 701 Via Lido Soud, Newport Beach. The public is invited to attend. Donation is $5 or a gently used book. Proceeds will benefit the OCC Library. Refreshments will be served.

CLASS WILL TEACH YOUNGSTERS HOW TO WRITE COMPUTER GAMES
OCC will offer an after-school S.T.E.M program that introduces youngsters to creative computing with MIT’s Scratch programming tool, using a design-based learning approach. The class will be offered for eight weeks on Tuesdays, February 11 through April 1. Sessions are one hour, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Computer Center 109.

SAT TEST PREP HELPS STUDENTS BOOST COLLEGE PROSPECTS
OCC Community Education will present a practical, in-depth seminar is strategically designed to strip the SAT /ACT and PSAT examinations of their armor and reveal their soft underbellies.
