She is also a playwright and served as artistic director and company manager of the Dominguez Bridge Theatre Company at CSU Dominguez Hills.

“Spring Awakening,” with music by Duncan Sheik and adapted for theatre by Stephen Sater, is based on a controversial German play written in 1891 by Frank Wedekind. The book was banned in Germany for its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide.

The original production, which opened on Broadway in 2006, won eight Tony Awards, including Tonys for best musical, direction, book, score and featured actor. The production also garnered four Drama Desk Awards and its original cast album received a Grammy Award.
