MUSIC IN OCC SYMPHONY MARCH 8 CONCERT INSPIRES OLYMPIC GOLD

The Orange Coast College Symphony, directed by OCC music professor Ricardo Soto, will perform Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” on Saturday, March 8. The work is a classic musical retelling of the story of the 1001 Nights and a favorite of audiences of all ages. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert B. Moore Theatre.

The United States won its first-ever Olympic gold medal in ice dancing last week week to program set to “Scheherazade.” OCC’s March 8 concert will give fans a chance to hear a complete performance of the music that inspired the US ice dance team to win gold.

The program also includes a timpani concerto by Johann Fischer and “Tres Danzas Concertantes” by Leo Brouwer. Guest artists are timpanist Damion Frigillana and OCC music instructor Adam Pettit on the guitar.
