RESPONSE POSITIVE AFTER ACCJC ACCREDITATION VISIT
Following exit interviews with the visiting team from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) last week, OCC President Dennis Harkins reported positive feedback to the college’s Follow-Up Report that was submitted to the ACCJC in March.

CHANCELLOR "CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC” FOLLOWING ACCJC VISIT
Coast Community College District Chancellor Andrew Jones said he is “cautiously optimistic” that last week’s visit from the visiting accreditation team will result in a positive response when the ACCJC (Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges) meets in June. Results from the follow-up visit are expected to to be published in July.

OCC bookstore manager David Watts has been transferred to another campus with a bookstore operated by Follett Higher Education Group. Assistant manager Elizabeth Birenbaum will take over as interim manager for the bookstore.

“DECAY” EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY IN ARTS PAVILION APRIL 21-23
“Decay,” an exhibit by Sean Williams, a student in Trevor Norris’ Exhibition Design 2 class, will be on display in the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion from Monday through Wednesday, April 21-23. The campus is invited to an opening reception on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The gallery will be open Monday and Tuesday, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m.

STUDENT GALLERY SHOWS WORK OF ASHLEY RAMIREZ
The work of OCC student Ashley Ramirez is on display in the Student Gallery located in the Fine Arts Building Photo Lab, through April 28. “Writing a story with light is my prerogative,” Ramirez said. “I am constantly striving to absorb new knowledge of my craft to add on to my experience as a photographer. I love working in a darkroom, processing my own film, and making that perfect silver-based print.”

Irini Rickerson, Orange Coast College professor of art and architecture, will present “Rise of the Art Deco Movement” in a program sponsored by OCC Friends of the Library and the Lido Isle Women’s Club on Tuesday, April 22. The presentation will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Lido Isle Clubhouse, 701 Via Lido Soud, Newport Beach. The public is invited to attend. Donation is $5 or a gently used book. OCC CLUB SLATES AWARENESS WEEK ON HOMELESSNESS
Helping Hearts for the Homeless, a new OCC club, is launching an Awareness Week on April 28. Club members will set up displays in the campus quad that depict the reality that homeless persons must deal with every day. The club will also provide information on homelessness. The weeklong campus event will end on Thursday, May 1, with a documentary and guest speaker in the Science Hall from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The campus is invited to attend.

OCC LIBRARY TO HOST USED BOOK SALE APRIL 29-30
Orange Coast College’s Friends of the Library will sell used books on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29 and April 30, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the campus library. A variety of books will be available from bestsellers, romance and mysteries to science, art, history and computers. Most books sell for $1. The sale will culminate with a “buck-a-bag” sale from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

OCC FASHION JOINS REGIONAL FASHION EXHIBIT
Orange Coast College has joined three other Orange County community colleges in the first regional collaborative effort to design a fashion exhibit. “A Different Skin” highlights Fullerton College, Orange Coast College, Saddleback College and Santa Ana College students’ couture designs. The gallery exhibit runs through May 3. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Fridays, 7 to 10 p.m. during ArtWalk on May 3, and by appointment. Admission is free. The exhibit is at the Santa Ana College Arts Gallery at the Santora Building in the Artists Village in downtown Santa Ana at 207 N. Broadway, Suite Q, Santa Ana.
