2,708 TO RECEIVE DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AT OCC’S 66TH COMMENCEMENT WEDNESDAY, MAY 21
Orange Coast College will confer 2,708 associate degrees and certificates at its 66th Commencement Ceremony on Wednesday, May 21. More than 7,000 persons are expected to attend the program at 5:30 p.m. at Pacific Amphitheatre, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. A total of 1,497 students will receive Associate in Arts degrees, while 652 will earn Associate in Science degrees. Certificates of Completion will be presented to 559 students.

OC WEEKLY EDITOR GUSTAVO ARELLANO TO JOIN OCC ALUMNI HALL OF FAME
Gustavo Arellano, the editor of Orange County’s alternative newspaper, “OC Weekly,” will be inducted into Orange Coast College’s Alumni Hall of Fame on Wednesday, May 21, in a ceremony at the OCC Library immediately following the college’s 66th Commencement Ceremony, where he will be a special guest of honor.

SCHOLARSHIPS HIT NEW RECORD FOR 2014 HONORS NIGHT
Orange Coast College will distribute more than $400,000 in scholarships to students on Wednesday, May 14, when the college conducts its 56th annual Honors Night ceremony. It’s a new record, according to OCC Foundation Director Doug Bennett. More than 500 scholarships will be awarded.

$325,000 ANONYMOUS DONATION FUNDS 3D PRINTER FOR MACHINE TECH
The OCC Machine Technology Program recently installed a 3D Concept Laser Printer in the OCC Machine Technology Laboratory. Coast is now one of the only community colleges in the nation able to provide training for students on a 3D laser printer.

PIRATES TO HOST BASEBALL PLAYOFFS THIS WEEKEND
Orange Coast College baseball will host Southwestern this weekend in the Southern California Sectionals, beginning on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Wendell Pickens Field. Game 2 of this best-of-three series will take place on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. with a third game slated for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. if needed.

ANNUAL STUDENT ART SHOW RUNS THROUGH MAY 24
Orange Coast College student artists will display their work in the “Mass Appeal 2014 Student Art Exhibition” in the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion through May 24. The gallery is open 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; and 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. It will also be open for the final day of the exhibit on Saturday, May 24, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.

WORLD DANCE TO FEATURE 50 DANCERS IN MAY 16 CONCERT
A cast of 50 multicultural dancers will celebrate colorful movements from around the globe on Friday, May 16, at 7:00 p.m. onstage at Orange Coast College’s Robert B. Moore Theatre. Directed by OCC faculty member, Angelika Nemeth, this 60-minute concert includes dances originating from Egypt, Hawaii, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Scotland, Spain, Tahiti and West Africa. Performers include OCC dance and music faculty, including Angelika Nemeth, flamenco instructor Arlene Hurtado, and guest artists and student dancers from the college’s Performing Dance Ensemble Class. Special guests include Arpana Dance Company with dance from South India and Ballet Folklorico Raices de Mexico OC.

LIBRARY LECTURES FOR SUMMER SESSION
The library will be open during the summer session on Mondays and Tuesdays at 12 to 7 pm and on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12 to 4 pm. But a librarian will be available at all hours to teach a library lecture for your class in our library (even if the library is closed) or in your classroom. These lectures are about 60 minutes and teach how to do library research in both the physical and the virtual library.
