2,708 RECEIVE DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AT OCC’S 66TH COMMENCEMENT
Orange Coast College conferred 2,708 associate degrees and certificates at its 66th Commencement Ceremony this week. A total of 1,497 students will receive Associate in Arts degrees, while 652 will earn Associate in Science degrees. Certificates of Completion will be presented to 559 students.

EDUARDO ARISMENDI-PARDI TO LEAD OCC FACULTY SENATE
Eduardo Jesus Arismendi-Pardi, Professor of Mathematics, was elected president of the OCC Academic Senate. He replaces Denise Cabanel-Bleur, who is leaving the Senate after serving three years. Phylicia Hassapis, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Emergency Medical Technology, will continue to serve as vice president, and Jamie Blair, Professor of Mathematics, was elected to another term as Senate secretary. Marilyn Kennedy, Associate Professor of English, will be the parliamentarian for 2014-14.

OCC STUDENT LEADER HONORED BY COSTA MESA CHAMBER
Orange Coast College's Sam Mahdad is leaving the campus with a 4.0 grade point average and, after finishing his degree, a desire to enter the computer industry. He was praised for his involvement in OCC's student government, where he served on the executive board during the past year.

OCC GUITAR ENSEMBLES TO PERFORM MAY 22
OCC music instructors Adam Pettit and Dave Murdy will direct the OCC Guitar Ensemble in a performance on Thursday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert B. Moore Theatre. ANNUAL STUDENT ART SHOW ENDS SATURDAY
Orange Coast College student artists will display their work in the “Mass Appeal 2014 Student Art Exhibition” in the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion through May 24. The gallery is open 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; and 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. It will also be open for the final day of the exhibit on Saturday, May 24, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.

OCC SAILING CENTER SLATES SUMMER SAILSTICE ON JUNE 21
The Orange Coast College Sailing Center will host its 14th Annual Summer Sailstice Celebration on Saturday, June 21, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. featuring free sailing on Newport Harbor with one of the Sailing Center’s instructors. Guests will also enjoy free hot dogs. The OCC Sailing Center is located at 1801 W. Coast Highway, Newport Beach.

JUNE 16 AUDITIONS SLATED FOR OCC SUMMER MUSICAL
The Orange Coast College Theatre Department will hold auditions for a musical adaptation of Arthur Miller’s famous comedy, “Creation of the World and Other Business: the Musical,” on Monday, June 16, at 6:00 p.m. in the Drama Lab. Peter Uribe will direct the production.

LIBRARY LECTURES FOR SUMMER SESSION
The library will be open during the summer session on Mondays and Tuesdays at 12 to 7 pm and on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12 to 4 pm. But a librarian will be available at all hours to teach a library lecture for your class in our library (even if the library is closed) or in your classroom. These lectures are about 60 minutes and teach how to do library research in both the physical and the virtual library. ‘ADAPTATION’ TRACKS SHORT FICTION TO FILM
Orange Coast College English professor Leigh Ann Weatherford and independent filmmaker Dale Schierholt will team up for a four-week Community Education class, “Adaptation: From Short Fiction to Feature Film.” The group will meet on Sundays, June 1 to June 22, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Math Lecture Hall 1.
