The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC), reaffirmed Orange Coast College’s accreditation and removed the college from warning status, OCC President Dennis Harkins announced.

The commission took the action at its June meeting, and officially informed OCC of its decision in a letter dated July 3. The college addressed ACCJC recommendations in a report this spring. A team from ACCJC visited campus in April to evaluate the college’s progress.

“OCC has successfully addressed all recommendations pertaining specifically to the College,” Harkins said. Recommendations concerned student learning outcomes, faculty evaluations, distance education and updating Coast Community College District board policies.

The commission asked the college and district to submit a follow-up report in March 2015 that examines delegating authority to the district chancellor and college presidents and to develop administrative procedures that accomplish that goal.

“Though we will never be done introducing innovative teaching techniques, structural and governance improvements, or providing the resources and facilities our students need to be successful, this reaffirmation is a testament to our dedication to our students and community,” Harkins said.
