DOYLE ARTS PAVILION PLANS ARTISTS' RECEPTION OCTOBER 6

The artists share a similar passion for the human body and the spirit within, according to Trevor Norris, curator of the exhibit that runs through October 11th.

SYMPHONY, CHORALE OPEN SEASON WITH RUSSIAN MUSIC
Ricardo SotoThe OCC Symphony, Chamber Singers and Chorale kick off the 2012-13 musical year with a program of Russian music on Saturday, October 6th, at 8:00 p.m. at OCC’s Robert B. Moore Theatre.

More than 150 musicians–including OCC students, community members, and professional instrumentalists–will take the stage. Music professors Ricardo Soto and Eliza Rubenstein will share the conducting responsibilities.

Mark your calendar! The Great California ShakeOut will take place on Thursday, October 18th, at 10:18 a.m.

More than 7.9 million people will participate in California, including students, faculty and staff at OCC. The campus will review the DROP-COVER-HOLD ON procedure, evacuate campus buildings, and put emergency communication procedures into action. For more information, visit www.shakeout.org.

A few years after graduating from high school, Long Beach native Kelly Holt was at a crossroads. She didn’t know what to do with her life, so she asked her mother.

“She was in the cardiology department at Long Beach Memorial Hospital at the time,” Holt said. “She noticed how much fun the cath lab technologist had doing their job, and they seemed to have enough money to enjoy life as well.”

DONATED BOOKS HELP OCC LIBRARY
The Friends of the Library is looking for donations of gently used books, videos, DVD’s and CD’s for its campus book sale on Tuesday, October 23rd. Donations can be dropped off at the OCC Library. Donors can request receipts for their tax-deductible donation at the circulation desk in the Library. All proceeds from the FOTL book sale will benefit the campus library.

Steve Goetz, OCC counselor emeritus, needs a little help from his friends.

Goetz, a popular counselor at OCC for 21 years until his retirement two years ago, is directing the Irvine/Newport Mesa CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 28th, with Jim de Boom, a columnist for the Daily Pilot.
