OCC TO OBSERVE DAY OF THE DEAD OCTOBER 31
The International & Multicultural Education Committee will present Orange Coast College’s 3rd Annual Day of the Dead Celebration on Thursday, October 31st with faculty presentations starting at 12:45 p.m. in the Student Center Lounge. The event features an exhibit of faculty and student-designed altars from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

“ART & ARCHITECTURE” EVENT TO BENEFIT AIDS
Orange Coast College art professor Irini Vallera-Rickerson will present “Unique Art and Architecture Around the World,” on Friday, November 1st at 6:45 p.m. in the college’s Robert B. Moore Theatre. It will be the 23rd year for the program, which has raised more than $100,000 to benefit AIDS victims. Tickets are $10, and additional tax deductible donations are welcome.

VISUAL EFFECTS, LIVE MUSIC SPARK OCC’S “ELEPHANT MAN”
“Elephant Man,” Orange Coast College’s fall theatrical production, promises to be a visually intense experience that employs gritty live music that recreates the dark atmosphere of an industrialized London in the 1800s. The play opens Friday, November 8th, and runs through Sunday, November 17th.

OCC SYMPHONY TO PRESENT ROMANTIC ERA CLASSICS
The Orange Coast College Symphony, directed by OCC music professor Ricardo Soto, will perform Brahms’ “Symphony No. #3” and Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dances” on Saturday, November 16th. OCC HELPS COSTA MESA WIN $170,000 GRANT FOR BIKE TRAILS
A letter of support from Orange Coast College helped the City of Costa Mesa qualify for a $170,000 grant from the Southern California Association of Government (SCAG) Sustainability Program to plan bike and pedestrian trails. The campus is a major bike trail destination, but the college did not have to spend a dollar to support the effort.

Coast Community College District students expressed concern during a board meeting last week about a controversial debit card used to disperse financial aid. The card has a transaction fee, but students can also ask to have financial aid funds deposited directly into their personal banking accounts, a process that can take more time. Students do not need to make a reservation, but can just drop in. These 60-minute workshops are held in the Library’s Lecture Room, located at the Library entrance.
