HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
winter break december 17-January 1 campus closed
Campus offices will close on Friday, December 14th, and reopen on Wednesday, January 2nd, for winter break. The last day of classes for the fall semester is Sunday, December 16th.

The campus will also be closed on Monday, January 21st, to observe Martin Luther King Day. Classes for the Spring 2013 semester begin on Monday, January 28th.

STUDENT TEAM TO PROMOTE DESIGNATED DRIVER PROGRAM

These students are working with the Student Health Center to promote peer-to-peer health education, currently focusing on preventing drunk driving and promoting the use of the designated driver system among Orange Coast College Students.

OCC STAFF AIDE TO PURSUE CAREER AS DISTRICT COUNSELOR
Carisa MontoothCarisa Montooth, a staff aide in the President’s Office, will leave her OCC position on December 14th to pursue adjunct counseling faculty opportunities in the District, including OCC and Coastline.

Carisa has a master's degree in educational counseling from the University of La Verne. In recent years, she worked as a part-time counselor at Coast, and she served as the OCC representative to CCA, the part-time faculty union

DENTAL ASSISTING PROGRAM SEEKS VOLUNTEER PATIENTS
Students in the Orange Coast College Dental Assisting Program will provide low-cost dental exams and cleaning to volunteers this spring, according to Joy Myers, program chair.

Most volunteer patients are students referred by the Student Health Center, but the low-cost program is also open to staff, faculty and their family members, Myers said.

2013 SENIOR DAY SLATED FOR FEBRUARY 26
OCC’s next Senior Day will fall almost a month earlier than in past years. The event has been slated for Tuesday, February 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The change allows for efficiencies and cost-savings, and is endorsed by high school counselors who feel an earlier date gives students more time to consider options and apply for programs of study.

MACINTOSH USERS' GROUP MEETS SATURDAY, JANUARY 5

The Orange Apple Computer Club, a Macintosh user's group, meets Saturday, January 5, on campus.

The club, which has been gathering at OCC for more than two decades, meets the first Saturday of each month (except holiday weekends), from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Chemistry Building, Room 214.

Bernie LuskinAn article penned for “Psychology Today” by former OCC President Emeritus Bernie Luskin is in demand.

“After I published my ‘Psychology Today’ article defining media psychology I got a number of requests for a PDF so that the article may be used in other ways,” reported Luskin, who is president-elect for The Society for Media Psychology and Technology American Psychology Association Division 46. “Media Psychology is a growing specialty and continues to evolve,” he added.
