Holiday performance

The annual holiday production mounted by Orange Coast College's Repertory Theatre Company closes this weekend in the Drama Lab Theatre.

Titled "An Old-Fashioned Christmas Melodrama and Ice Cream Social," the holiday treat runs Friday through Sunday, Dec. 15-17. Curtain is set for 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday nights. Saturday and Sunday matinees are scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The show, under the direction of OCC theatre arts professor, Rick Golson, will feature an evening of music, vaudeville acts, a holiday sing-along, and the college's traditional holiday melodrama. The production is geared for the entire family.

This year's original melodrama, titled "The Final Radio Show of Hick Hayseed," was written by OCC theatre arts instructor, David Scaglione. Scaglione has penned nearly a dozen different Christmas melodramas over the years for OCC's holiday production.

In "The Final Radio Show of Hick Hayseed," the year is 1953. Hayseed's radio studio is foreclosed by evil villain, Simon Snodgrass. The studio is to be leveled to make way for the latest in modern technology: a television station. Will it be the end of the line for Hayseed and his sister, Noel Carol?

Everyone attending the show will be treated to a free ice cream favor. There will also be a visit by Santa, so parents are encouraged to bring their cameras.

Advance tickets, priced at $6, are on sale in the Bursar's Office, located adjacent to OCC's Student Center. The office is open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $7. All children's tickets are priced at $5.

Tickets may be purchased by phone or online, using Visa, Discover or MasterCard. The online address is For information, phone (714) 432-5880.
