middle college classSpring classes at Orange Coast College's Middle College High School will get under way on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

OCC's spring semester begins on Monday, Jan. 30.

The Middle College High School has been operating on OCC's 164-acre campus for 10 years. MCHS spring semester classes will conclude on Thursday, June 8. The school's eighth graduation ceremony will be held that afternoon.

OCC's Middle College High School has 100 11th and 12th graders enrolled this year. The school will continue to accept 11th grade applicants for the spring semester on a space-available basis, through Monday afternoon (Dec. 19). Applications for the 2006-07 academic year will be accepted through Friday, March 31. For information, phone (714) 432-5732.

The Middle College High School is designed specifically for students who are looking for an academic environment outside the traditional high school setting. It's a collaborative effort between OCC and the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.

"The Middle College High School provides a supportive academic atmosphere in which high-potential students can improve their level of achievement and prepare for the technologically rich environment of the future," says Middle College High School principal, Bob Nanney.

"We're a small school, therefore our classes are small, offering students more personal attention. Our students are also eligible to enroll concurrently in credit courses offered by Orange Coast College.

"All OCC resources are available to our students, including the Norman E. Watson Library, Counseling Center, Computer Center, Career Center and Transfer Center, just to name a few."
