EOPS Director Steve Tamanaha represented the college as a nominee for Outstanding Philanthropic Group by Girls Inc. at Orange County's 24th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon held in November at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel.

OCC EOPS has hosted the Summer Eureka Program for Girls Inc. for the past 10 years.
Approximately 60 girls in grades 7 through 9 spend three weeks on campus each summer for a variety of activities, including building robots, learning the basics of film production and photo editing, and experiencing life on campus.

The idea is to introduce girls to nontraditional careers and empowering them to think about possibilities for the future. The program is not all work – the girls also enjoy a variety of fun activities, including surfing and swimming at the beach.

In addition to Girls Inc., Tamanaha said EOPS collaborates with many community programs, including homeless shelters, youth groups and the probation department.
