Aviation Maintenance Technology

​​As the world becomes increasingly commuter driven, the need for skilled aircraft technicians is growing. The aircraft industry is quickly evolving its level of sophisticated navigational and communications systems. This requires a new competent work force capable in the state-of-the-art technology of the future. 

Orange Coast College's Aviation Maintenance Technology program has been preparing students for careers in aviation maintenance for more than 30 years. and provides a top-notch education in the mechanics of various aircraft. The program is divided into five parts: airframe, power plant, airframe and power plant, avionics and helicopters. 

All courses offered through OCC's Aviation Technology program are designed by experts in the field and meet current aviation industry standards.

Certificates of Achievement 

Airframe and Powerplant 

This certificate provides students with the technical skills and systems analysis necessary for entry-level positions as certificated mechanics in the aviation industry, such as airframe inspection, powerplant inspection, maintenance,  and return-to-flight status of all types of U.S. aircraft. Trained technicians are also successful in related fields of aircraft manufacturing, electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, sheet metal, quality control, and civil and military defense. 

Students have the option of separating these two specialties to earn a certificate in airframe or powerplant. Students who follow this program may go on to earn an engineering degree at a four-year institution.


Certificates of Specialization 


The avionics certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as installation. maintenance and repair technicians for avionic equipment in private, corporate and commercial aircraft.

Helicopter Maintenance 

The helicopter maintenance certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as maintenance and repair technicians for helicopters.
