Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a technique using high frequency sound to create images of specific areas of the body, from which pathology may be diagnosed in areas such as obstetrics and ophthalmology. As medical patients continue to seek safer imaging alternatives, the field of sonography is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations. A competent sonographer must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy and pathology, as well as the skills to manipulate a wide variety of sophisticated instruments. Jobs typically are found in public and private hospitals, private physician's practices, medical and diagnostic laboratories, and mobile imaging services.
