Orange Coast College offers programs and courses that meet the needs of this vast industry. Our fashion program provides an environment that promotes critical thinking. creativity and multicultural awareness. If fosters understanding of social. organizational and technological systems. 

Certificates of Achievement 


This program is designed to prepare students for entry-­level employment as designers in the fashion industry in the fields of traditional design. technical design and merchandising. Courses cover color and design theory. sewing and design techniques, patternmaking, and more. 

Production/Product Development

This program is designed to prepare students for entry­-​level employment in the fashion industry in the areas of patternmaking, sample-making, technical design, sourcing management. production management. quality control supervising. grading. marker making. costing/spec production. pre-production and merchandising. Courses cover a variety of subjects such as sewing techniques. patternmaking. professional practices. computerized pattern systems. business and marketing. and retail buying. 

Apparel Construction 

This program prepares students for entry-level employment in the fashion industry in the areas of garment construction. alterations. patternmaking. tailoring. alterations and dressmaking, Courses cover clothing and sewing techniques. draping. professional practices. couture design and more.

Fashion Merchandising 

This program prepares students for entry-level employment as merchandisers in the fashion industry. Courses cover subjects such as retail management. retail buying, special events and promotions. visual merchandising. image/fashion consulting and public relations. 

Display and Visual Merchandising 

This certificate prepares students seeking careers as display and exhibit designers. and covers interior. industrial. thematic and promotional displays. Upon completion. students will be able to produce a digital presentation of a specific retail venue. illustrating continuity of a theme through physical appearance. room settings. signage. merchandise and website presentation. 

Certificate of Specialization 

Industrial Sewing 

This program provides short-term training in the areas of clothing construction. and the use of high-speed industrial sewing equipment The certificate can be completed in one to two semesters. and offers a self-paced open entry/ open exit lab that allows for enrollment throughout the semester. Upon completion of the certificate. students are qualified for positions in apparel construction and textile product assembly.
