Polysomnographic (PSG) technology is an allied health specialty for the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of sleep and daytime alertness. The range of sleep disorders is varied, but includes common disorders such as narcolepsy, sleep apnea, insomnias and many others.
PSG technologists are employed in sleep disorder centers, which can b e located in medical centers, hospitals, or clinic and office settings. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and graduates meet the requirements for the PSG exam of the Board of Registration in Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
Associate in Science Degree
This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment as a polysomnographic technologist. The program offers instruction which includes lectures, laboratory experience on campus, clinical experience at accredited sleep centers and physician lectures. This program accepts new students to begin in the fall semesters of odd years.
Neurodiagnostic Technology Cross-Training
This option is recommended for neurodiagnostic technology graduates who would like to cross-train as polysomnographic technologists.
Respiratory Care Cross-Training
This option is recommended for respiratory care graduates who would like to cross-train as polysomnographic technologists.
