Computer Information Systems
​​​​Do you have a knack for computers? As technology becomes more sophisticated and complex, the need for trained, certified individuals in information and communications technologies will be great. Orange Coast College's Computer Information Systems program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the computer and information systems industry, or to help business-oriented majors gain admission to a transfer institution. 

Employment in the computer information field is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations in the next decade. OCC's Computer Information Systems program partners with several technology companies in Orange County, which provide training, classroom curriculum and support to prepare students for employment in this growing field. Job prospects for graduates of this program are excellent, with best outcomes for those who have a familiarity with a variety of programming languages. 

 

Certificates of Achievement


Business Application Development

This certificate is designed to provide a good foundation for students who are interested in developing computer applications, as well as provide a continual learning environment for working professionals who are looking to enhance their skillset. Students must complete a core curriculum in addition to courses from the following specialized areas: Introductory Programming, Technical Programming, Web Development, Networking Environment and Database.
 

Computer Programming

This certificate is designed to provide students with a comprehensive grounding in the theory and practice of modern computer programming. Based on the recommendations of the Association of Computing Machinery, the Computer Programming Certificate prepares students for entry-level programming positions, or can be used to fulfill some of the requirements for transfer to a computer science program at a four-year university. All classes are taught by professionals who currently work in the industry, and are up to date on the latest changes and innovations in computer coding.
 

Computer Information Systems

This certificate provides students in some business oriented majors with lower-division transfer courses. Courses cover such topics as financial accounting, java programming, macroeconomics, and more.​

Certificates of Specialization


C++ Programming

Completion of this certificate will enable students to apply to entry-level positions as C++ programmers. Students will learn to write programs using classes, flow of control and fundamental data structures.


Python Programming

Completion of this certificate will enable students to apply to entry-level positions in Python programming. Students will learn to write programs in Python using classes, flow of control and fundamental data structures. 

Enterprise Routing

This certificate prepares students to design and implement a converged network using technology from Cisco. with a focus on router configurations. 

Certificates of Specialization​ - Information & Communication Technology

 

Network Administration - Linux

This certificate is designed to prepare students to deploy, build. design, optimize and operate a Linux server and desktop environment. 

Network Administration - Windows

This certificate is designed to prepare students to deploy, build, design, optimize and operate a Windows server and desktop environment. In addition this certificate provides preparation for students seeking industry-standard certification tests from CompTIA and Microsoft. 

Network Administration & Operations

Completion of this certificate will give students the skills needed for careers in technical operation and network management. Students who receive the certificate will be able to design and implement a small- to medium-sized network environment. This program also prepares students who are seeking industry-standard certification from CompTIA and Microsoft. 

Network Infrastructure

This certificate prepares students to design and implement a converged network using technology from Cisco. 

Network Technician

This certificate prepares students to design and implement a converged network. Network Security This certificate prepares students to design and implement a converged network, with an emphasis on information security and hacking defenses. 

Network Services and Applications

This certificate prepares students to design and implement a converged network, with an emphasis on wireless networking, voice over IP, and home technology. 

Virtualization and Cloud Computing

This certificate prepares students to design and implement a converged network, with an emphasis on storage management and the cloud. 

Office Applications 

Completion of this certificate will teach students the basic skills involved with using Microsoft Office applications. Students who receive the Office Applications Certificate will be able to use a computer operating system and computer applications for word processing, electronic spreadsheet creation, database management, multimedia presentations and electronic personal management.

Network Professional

In order to receive this certificate, students must have already completed the Network Technician Certificate of Specialization. This certificate expands on the skills needed to design and implement a converged network, emphasizing applied management and interpersonal communication technologies.

Web Design

Completion of this certificate will prepare students to apply for entry-level positions designing websites. Students will learn to use Dreamweaver software, design Web pages using CSS, and program using JavaScript.
