​​​​​Orange Coast College's Dance Department enjoys a national reputation for quality, creativity and a comprehensive curriculum. The department promotes high artistic and technical standards. and instructors excel in their dance disciplines. 

Many OCC dance faculty members are outstanding performing artists and choreographers;. The OCC Dance Department offers a comprehensive curriculum with dance courses in a variety of dance styles for all levels of students. The department guides students to explore their own creative potential, to introduce them to the artistry of professionals through live performances. to develop insight. perception. understanding and evaluative skills. and to enhance wellness and healthy lifestyles through the integration of the mind, body, and spirit. Students who complete the two-year certificate program will come recommended from a highly respected dance program. 


Certificates of Achievement 


Dance Instructor 

This certificate prepares students for careers as dance instructors. training students for positions in the commercial and artistic areas of dance. Graduates of the program would be qualified as instructors in ballet. modern. jazz. tap and world dance forms in private studios. recreation or other community dance programs. 

World Dance 

This certificate prepares students for positions in the commercial and artistic areas of dance. working as instructors in private studios. recreation and other community dance programs. and acting as consultants. lecturers. or performers with an emphasis on the ethnic dance forms. The program primarily teaches mid-eastern. flamenco. Spanish classical. east Indian. and African dance. 

Certificate of Specialization 


Pilates/Dance Conditioning Instructor 

This certificate prepares students to teach in a privately owned dance. fitness. or Pilates studio, recreational facility, or dance club. To prepare the student for employment, instruction uses both classroom work with lectures. labs. and independent and group projects. in addition to internship experiences in dance and fitness facilities. Upon completion of the program. students will be able to demonstrate or identify beginning through advanced Pilates exercises; describe the basic principles of Pilates; design a lesson plan for a Pilates mat and apparatus class; teach a Pilates class using appropriate cueing and demonstration; and identify common alignment problems and prescribe modifications and/or solutions.
