Early Childhood Education
​​As the population continues to grow, the need for professional and skilled childcare providers will increase. Many states are beginning to implement preschool programs, improving the future outlook of child development specialists across the nation. Orange Coast College offers a child development program that is among the best. with courses emphasizing strong theoretical and practical skills needed to work with children from birth to 5 years, and hands-on experience through the College's lab school for children. Courses also are available that prepare students to work with children with disabilities. Completion of the program fulfills Title 22 licensing requirements and Title 5 early childhood education course requirements for the Child Development Permit at the teacher level. 


Certificates of Achievement 


Infant and Toddler Teacher 

This program prepares students for entry-level employment as a professional and competent infant/ toddler teacher (birth to 2 years). 

Preschool Teacher 

This program prepares students for entry-level employment as a professional and competent preschool teacher (2-5 years). 

Early Intervention Aide 

This program prepares students for entry-level employment as an early interventionist aide. 

Early Childhood Administration 

This program prepares students who already have Early Childhood certificates to become directors or administrators of early childhood centers. 

Certificates of Specialization 


School-Age Child Care 

This program prepares students to work with children ages 6-12 in after-school programs. Courses provide developmentally based curriculum designed to teach students how to provide competent after-school care for school-age children. 

Family Childcare Provider 

This program prepares students for entry-level employment as professional and competent family child care providers.
