Emergency Medical Services
​​As a relatively new profession, emergency medical services continue to grow and evolve, with demand for skilled technicians projected to grow in the next decade. Orange Coast College's Emergency Medical Services program prepares students for careers as emergency medical technicians that go on to be employed in various positions in the industry, including with private ambulance services, local government such as fire departments, public ambulance services and emergency medical services, ​and in hospitals, responding to calls in ambulances or helicopters to transport critically ill or injured patients.

 

Certificate of Specialization 


Emergency Medical Technician 

This program prepares students for careers as emergency medical technicians. EMS certification is required to work for an ambulance service. in an emergency department. or may be required for lifeguards, ski patrol and fire fighters. Emergency Medical Technicians provide the care necessary to preserve life and to prevent disability among the acutely ill and seriously injured. EMTs also assist and communicate with other healthcare providers to aid with treatment and diagnoses. Upon completion of the EMS program students are qualified to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician's certifying exam, and obtain EMS basic certification in any California county.
