Orange Coast College's Literature and Languages Division is home to the departments of English, English as a Second Language, Journalism, Communication Studies and World Languages (including French, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish).  We offer a variety of core courses that thousands of OCC students take every year to transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

In addition, we sponsor or help support many valuable programs on campus. The Department of English and the Department of World Languages work in conjunction with OCC’s Honors Program to offer honors courses in English and Spanish. Our Speech and Debate Team, sponsored by the Department of Communication Studies has won many local, state and national titles, including an impressive ninth national championship in 2015. The Division sponsors the award-winning Coast Report, OCC's on-campus newspaper produced by students through the Department of Communications.

Literature and Language faculty members also have taken on additional responsibilities in order to continue to offer the rewarding experience of Study Abroad to interested students.

In both core areas and specialized programs, our Division prides itself on being student-oriented. Our faculty strive to provide students with opportunities for academic and personal growth, and our greatest reward is in knowing that we have helped students participate in intellectually and emotionally enriching experiences.
