COSTA MESA -- There were plenty of stats to go around for the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team during Friday's three-game sweep over visiting Southwestern College.
The seventh-ranked Pirates (5-0) used the entire team en route to a 25-9, 25-18, 25-19 win, giving several players an opportunity to show their skills on the Peterson Gym floor.
Sophomore Karlee Riggs led the offense with seven kills, while Alyssa Assayag came off the bench and ripped four kills. OCC teammates Angela Johnson and Leslie Stiner also contributed three kills each.
Backup setter Alex Krohnfeldt paced the offense with 16 assists. She and fellow Pirate Allie Stone, each came up with six digs, while Lindsey Romero and Riggs each contributed five.
Alejandra Puga led Southwestern (3-4) with nine kills.
After a slow start to the match, the Pirates saw themselves tied with the Jags at 8 before coming alive with a 15-0 run to blow the opener wide open.
In the second game, head coach Chuck Cutenese began to relieve the starters with some reserve players and they managed to keep the Jaguars at bay the entire evening.
Much like Game 1, a big run -- 10-0 this time -- turned an 11-11 draw into a 21-11 blowout.
Southwestern showed some grit in the third game and led by as many as five (10-5) early on but the Pirates fought back and used a 12-4 run to recapture the lead for good.
OCC will return to the Peterson Gym on Wednesday night against San Diego City College, beginning at 5 p.m.
